"You know I don't like this sort of thing," Kindness said, as they settled down into garishly printed seats at some self-proclaimed theater of the arts or another. They all blurred together in a sea of unoriginality. "When you said you'd show me something worth seeing, well," she gestured around the theater, though her disinterest stemmed from something either that the dust-covered lights and loud audience and curtains on the stage with seams undone and chewed by hungry little beasts.
"I fail to see the problem," said Love, with a shrug.
"I just," Kindness sighed, took a moment to think out a proper response and tried once more to articulate her feelings. "I don't like falsities, you know. And fiction is a city built upon it."
"What's it that one man said? Something like... 'Truth is so hard to tell, it sometimes need fiction to make it plausible'." Kindness rolled her eyes at her sister, and Love just smiled. "Show's starting."
The show was uneventful to anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of all things Shakespeare, and terrible in its adaption with overly colorful actors and sets and a Mercutio that implemented all his own jokes and a number of other things that made it a production for which the audience was well within their rights to talk during the poetic speeches of the cast.
It wasn't until Juliet appeared for the first time that something different happened. A something that burned flickered to life in Love's breast, ached and yearned and wanted and cried and it wasn't her own. But in the next moment it was decidedly gone, and she was left glancing around the theater for the Source. Kindness touched her arm in silent concern.
She merely said, "False alarm."
Romeo wasn't the only one to experience love at first sight on that night.
